At Breakaway Digital we make no secret of the fact that we love cycling, which is why we were thrilled to be asked to cover several races with photography and written words for our client Hunt Bike Wheels earlier this year.
Hunt Bike Wheels are based in Sussex, and make a wide range of cutting edge bike wheels, with outstanding products and an ever expanding presence in the industry we couldn’t wait to see them in action at some of the seasons most exciting races and events.
We love a new challenge, so gathering all the kit required for following the races around the country gave us something to really sink our teeth into. It was important to keep the equipment lightweight enough to travel with, whilst also ensuring we captured great quality shots. We offer a full range of photography services from high end stills to custom video, we can work to a clients exact specification and requirements.
A key strength of ours this year has been an ability to work independently and as such find our own solutions to logistical struggles. In most cases having our own method of transport has meant fuss free collaboration, a high degree of flexibility and unrivalled self-sufficiency. This became apparent whilst shooting at Further where we camped out high in the pyrenees so that we could get exclusive sunrise shots of the riders. As well as this, editing on the move whether that be in the back of a van or passenger seat of a car means we ensure quick turnaround times for our clients.
As well as providing content for our own client to use, they were able to provide that same material to their customers. The race organisers could also benefit by further publicising their events using our images. Alongside all this was content fit for promoting Hunt Bike Wheels on all their social networks.
We took shots at the inaugural FRTHR race, the Canyon DHB team at the Tour of Britain, and CX rider Gosse Van Der Meer at the National Trophy Series, which could all be used across Hunt Bike Wheels’ own channels, as well as being made available for their clients’ web channels, social media, and email newsletters.
Taking photos in authentic situations is a fantastic way to promote your product; we were able to give our client fresh and exciting imagery of their products being used out in the field; images that they might not otherwise have had access to. We were also keen to make sure we really captured the whole essence of the events, so alongside the races themselves, we enjoyed all the opportunities for socialising round campfires and hearing stories from the racing cyclists themselves.
As a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication, Ollie Gray, the Brand Manager at Hunt Bike Wheels for Road & CX, said of our FRTHR portfolio,
“That was lovely to look through. I think, aside from the obvious quality of your work, you’ve done well to capture the feeling of the event and what it will mean to people. It certainly captures the way I feel about it. Seriously impressive professionalism & work ethic demonstrated by the whole team.”
We had an absolutely fantastic time at all the races, and can’t wait for more action in 2020 and beyond.
